According to reports on the BBC Radio Cambridgeshire news this morning, another car was struck by a train on a level crossing and this time at The Black Horse in Littleport, between Kings Lynn and Ely late last night. Fortunately, nobody was seriously injured, but I do believe the car driver had to be cut free from the wreckage. _________________ Please help us to 'Raise a Wagon Load of Cash' and so we can get the lease, then start running. As a train driver it really angers me that people are willing not only to put their own stupid lives at risk but also those of anyone on an approaching train. I am glad no-one was injured and a hope the driver of the car uses his lucky escape as a well earned lesson. I do hope the train driver was not too shaken and can put it behind him.
The general public don't know this but I can guarantee that I will see at least one stupid act by the public on every shift whether it be cutting across crossings, standing on the edge of the platform or general horsing around. |

I agree with nebulaman, each and every shift you get either lazy, ignorant or negligent abuse at crossings or messing about on platforms, my favourite being the "pretend to jump in front of the train approaching the platform" people grrr
Sundays bring out the ramblers using occupational and foot crossings, they run in front of your train and then stand pressed against the gate or style waving cheerily at the big fast train that was seconds from killing them
Oh and people taking a photo with a flash going off as you approach the stops, such people do get a lecture from me

We had a car jump the lights at the NNR just outside Sheringham on the road that goes up to the Links Golf Club last Saturday week. Needless to say, the driver was caught on CCTV - the last one was banned from the Club for life, received something along the lines of a £750 fine and 9 Points on his license - I hate to think what his insurance is like now.
One of my pet hates is children running on platforms too - especially alongside the loco. One foul slip, and that's them, right into the motion. It really puts me off concentration as I end up thinking of the what-ifs, instead of focusing on the task ahead. _________________ My New Website | My Fotopic Site |

Such a pity an announcement can't be made about kids running about full-stop. I know I used to do it, but these days many parents just don't care what their kids do as I well know in another capacity.
As for the use of flash when taking photo's of trains pulling in, I refuse to use flash.
I might have mis-heard last night, but it sounded like the driver of the car at Littleport, is going to be held resposible for this incident. _________________ Please help us to 'Raise a Wagon Load of Cash' and so we can get the lease, then start running. Unless it is early/late at night and a loco is being disposed of, then I'll make a point of not using flash. It can be so blinding, especially if you have one pop off in your face just before a token exchange.
Good to hear the crossing jumper will be disciplined.
