It doesn't seem 40 years since the axeman and Ex-Chairman of what was ICI and Dr. Beeching struck out at our railway network, severing much of East Anglia of so many routes, but then he was on £24,000 per annum to do it, and even today, I don't see that having actually worked for a living.
Lines such as Kings Lynn - Hunstanton and proved it WAS making a profit by 2 x 15-year-old schoolboys at the time, Kings Lynn to Norwich, the M&GNJR, Wisbech - Kings Lynn section, just to name a few of many. I can recall that during the week after the closures, the line from South Lynn through towards Swaffham being ripped up and then days later, the bridge that crossed the line on the A10 at what is now the approach to the Hardwick Roundabout, Kings Lynn being demolished.
If anybody on here has any pictures of lines now gone, please feel free to add them. I have a couple, so as there is no copyright on them, I will post them asap, but give the credit to the person/s who actually took them.
