Not in our area but the railway being a close knit community I thought it only right to express my condolences and amazment at the same time regarding the incident.
Our thoughts must primarily go to the family of the lady who died in this tragic accident. Also to the onboard rail staff and especially the driver we wish a speedy recovery (both physically and psychologically). Last but no means least the passengers and their families who were involved we wish them a speedy recovery too.
The media and certain so called "railway experts" have stood on a soap box and aired their misjudged and premature views. I urge everyone to wait on the findings before deciding on the next course of action.
Our railways are becoming increasingly safe and it is all the more tragic when deaths and injuries occur. The newer trains on our network today meet above and beyond the European crash test safety levels. The infrastructure is constantly being checked, renewed and updated. It is now almost impossible for trains to be signalled onto the same track. You can never take the human error out of some events and sometimes even force majure can be involved.
I urge everyone to become aquainted with the safety information now displayed on the trains. One day they may save yours and others lives!
