According to some local news in the last few days, the re-opening of the Kings Lynn to Hunstanton Line has been raised again. Several people made an attempt many years back and Funds WERE raised for it, but nobody will say where the money eventually went, following its failure.

Obviously, like many other ripped up lines, the original track bed has since been built over, so there would have to be some negotiations, plus diversions, while the self-opinionated 'Experts' will claim it can't be done due to several reasons. Personally, I hope it DOES come off, because it too will then prove the critics wrong and hopefully shut them up.

I've just acqired some documents showing the works carried out to turn the line into a basic railway. Just how much did they spend converting the crossings etc, no signalman key token, track alterations and telecoms changes a year before the line shut? I find the same with St Ives, the lever frame reduced to 8 levers from 75 just before closure. I know how much i charge for such works. it wouldn't look good against the lines receipts...

I have read the option has been thrown out and better busses are to be used.

Please enlighten us as to where you read this, because I have yet to see any mention in the Kings Lynn comic of a local paper that I get twice a week. cheers.

I read ot in wikipedia, although its unreliable its possibly true.

Quote:
The "Hunstanton Masterplan", a report commissioned by West Norfolk Council to examine the options for regenerating the town, was published in September 2008. Prepared by Building Design Partnership, it considered the possibility of reopening the line from King's Lynn, but ultimately rejected the idea on the basis that (1) some trackbed has been lost to residential development, (2) the costs of construction would be substantial, and (3) there was no guarantee that the line would be financially viable. The study recommended instead the improvement of bus services between the towns

Thank you very much for this. I hadn't thought to look on there.
