I have been studying some recently acquired train registers some of which are from Whitemoor Junction, March. Whilst it was not part of the signalman's duty to record the loco numbers many did make a note in the remarks column. I note that on Tuesday 30th January 1968 just after 23:00hrs a class 8 freight was directed into No3 Bank, of the down hump reception, hauled by D8 and D8222. Now that is a combination i've never seen a picture of... Just look at the other loco's around at the time. You may need to click 'full size' then click on the picture to get suffient detail to read the writing..

I will contact a couple of Mates who were teenagers in the area at the same time to see if they can shed any light on this for you, If you'll excuse the pun? If I get an answer, I will ask (break their arm if they don't) them to join this forum and give you a reply. One still lives this way, but the other now lives in Essex, but still has a Vast interest in March and so visits as much as possible.
