TRAIN services from Liverpool Street were disrupted following a fatality at Marks Tey earlier today.
Rail operator One reported that shortly after 10am a male was hit by the 9.08am train from London to Clacton.
A spokesman said a bus replacement service was put in place between Colchester and Witham and said no services had been cancelled, but what about the service of the train that hit him? _________________ Please help us to 'Raise a Wagon Load of Cash' and so we can get the lease, then start running. 170201 was yesterday (4th June 2007) involved in a fatality at Seven Kings. The unit was inspected at Shenfield and returned to Crown Point. The severity of any damage to the train is unknown at the moment. No comment has been made to whether a suicide or accident.
I have been a member of various forums for a couple of years and often read of the dismay of the contributors of how selfish a person is that they choose to end their lives in a way that affects so many people. I must admit to having that view until an incident I witnessed at Shenfield a couple of months ago. I was travelling back with some collegues from a training course when a commotion was coming from down the platform. We looked and there was a man sat on top of a woman. The woman was screaming that the man was attacking her. Several of the station staff went to assist but the man remained firmly sat on top of the woman. After a few minutes the man and the station staff dragged the woman into a side room. I have never seen someone so distraught. We asked about what was happening and were told that the man had seen her ready to jump and so pinned her down. Having seen this incident made me realise that the woman felt she had no way out. She wasn't thinking about anyone or anything except how to die. It showed me the horrible plight of someone so desparate and longing for help. I now have a totally different view of the desparation of attempted suicide. Had she jumped it would have been infront of school children travelling home and so would have affected so many people. It shows me too many people are falling through the safety net of our society. I wish I could have given you a happy end to this story but sadly a week later a woman matching this discription jumped infront of a train a Kelvedon.
So I guess what I am trying to say is, yes feel sorry for the witnesses and the train driver. They have to live with those images but also spare a thought for the lost soul of the person who took their own life. It was unheard cry for help. |

I am only posting this as I see it as rather a closed forum and feel happy in expressing personal opinions.
I am always one to say that you shouldn't kill yourself in front of a train, because of the effects is has on the driver, passengers, police, other rail staff etc.... however, a few months ago I was strongly thinking about committing suicide, and I couldn't think of any other way than by the railway. I couldn't think of anything else which would be that quick... it's pretty hard to fail, and if you do get hit your most likely going to die straight away. One time I had sort of prepared myself to do it... I'd gone down to the South West to a foot crossing I know of on a 100mph line, and, in all honesty, I was ready to die.. it was only from talking to a member of rail staff, actually, that calmed me down enough to just go home. |

Thank you for being so open and honest about this. I am very pleased a member of staff managed to dis-suade you from carrying out your intentions. Having been there myself, I can fully understand what you were going through. It is horrible to say the very least and it seems the world is against you, but then there is always somebody around who will offer help, or listen and sometimes not always where you expect.
One driver I worked with years ago, sadly had to deal with 2 or 3 suicides and I have always said it was the last one that finished him because he very sadly had a fatal heart attack a short time after the last one, at a young age. _________________ Please help us to 'Raise a Wagon Load of Cash' and so we can get the lease, then start running. Services were disrupted again last night between Liverpool Street and Norwich, due to a suspected suicide of a female and believed to be that of Joanne Coombes, whose daughter Natasha was found close to the same spot about 5 weeks ago.
I sympathise with the driver of any train that hits a person, but the Husband will certainly be distraught now. _________________ Please help us to 'Raise a Wagon Load of Cash' and so we can get the lease, then start running. See the main website www.bramleyline.org.uk for further details. |

Driver didn't know and reported "rough riding". It has been confirmed that it was Joanne Coombes.
Another fatality at Lowestoft the other day when someone hung themselves from the iron footbridge over Lowestoft yard. Driver who discovered the scene is ok and back to work. Several passengers also witnessed the body. |

Very sad that two very Beautiful females had to die this way. My heart still goes out to the Drivers concerned and I wish them only well. There is after all, nothing they can do when somebody gets that desperate. _________________ Please help us to 'Raise a Wagon Load of Cash' and so we can get the lease, then start running. I was going to Kent yesterday, but due to a dumb lorry driver ripping some of the OHL's down at Ely on Monday evening and bus replacement having to be put in until goodness knows when, I cancelled going until Friday. Then when I get up yesterday, the line had been re-opened, but this morning, there was 'an incident' at Ashwell & Morden, so buses had to be put in again, this time between Cambridge and Letchworth. On the Liverpool Street to Cambridge lines, there were reports of severe delays via Lea Valley AND via Seven Sisters, so good job I didn't go today.
Is this the start of yet another 'Silly Season' as we know it? _________________ Please help us to 'Raise a Wagon Load of Cash' and so we can get the lease, then start running. See the main website www.bramleyline.org.uk for further details. |

Hello & can I just say that whilst I am a driver on L.U.L. I also have to deal with the aftermath of a one under by using our Trauma Support Group - T.S.G.
This system deals with the driver as soon as the incident has taken place and tries to help the driver by letting him get some of the trauma not all of it out of his system before it starts to embed itself, this way the latter stages of the trauma are not going to do anymore damage IE Post Traumatic stress disorder P.T.S.D. which if left untreated will do harm to the individual.
We have a system that if an individual has been recognized as suffering with P.T.S.D. then our own occupational health people will be called into assist.
This system works, I know I have been there on a couple of occasions and it is widely recognized as an effective way of helping drivers, guards, station persons etc.
Hope this helps
