Yellow Class 31'sToday, I went by train from March through to Chatham, Kent and via Cambridge due to avoiding the crush via Peterborough.
As the train approached platform 4 at Cambridge, I suddenly spotted 2 Class 31's in mustard yellow top n' tailing what appeared to be a Serco test train. Unfortunately at the time, I never got their numbers, but coming home again this afternoon, I did as the Kings Lynn train I was on passed them. They were 223 and 285 from what I remember.
Upon reaching Ely, I alighted the Lynn train to await the next one for March. Knowing some of the station staff there, I like to converse with them, so I did with the one on Platform 1. While talking with him, Yellow Class 31 602 came through and went towards Bury St. Edmunds on OZ37 at 16.05.
Anybody have any knowledge of this 'new' livery please?

The yellow livery...?
That's the Network Rail Test Train livery...
Didn't you know about it?

Network Rail have an array of yellow vehicles such as Class 31, 86 and and a HST.

Thank you. Not having travelled on the railway for a few weeks, I hadn't seen them before. I feel a logo would break the colour up a bit though. Nice to see some Class 31's still about.

There is a logo on it... just a small one.

It MUST be small. I stood on platform 1 at Ely as it passed through platform 2 and COULDN'T see it.

See it?

Just! Thank you. That looks like Cambridge.

Your welcome - and I think it is cambridge.
And for the record, the reason that all of the test trains are all over yellow is due to Health and Safety due to the fast speeds they travel at and the equipment they carry IIRC.

Bramleyman! We owe you an apology. There is a picture of a Network Rail 31 in yellow at Ipswich with NO NR BRANDING in the latest Railway Herald! The ex-FM rail locos have been painted up but no decals applied as yet.

No apology needed. I didn't get a good look at the two I saw at Cambridge, but the one I saw passing through Ely most certainly never sported a logo on my side.

Sorry Bramleyman, didn't know there was a new pair around.

No need for apology. I know there were 2 at Cambridge on the way out and then again when I came back and travelled to Ely, where I saw the third one, but with no logo on. Then again, it might have one and I simply didn't notice it.
