Train NamingAs Enthusiasts, we all know that years ago it was just steam locomotives that were named. Then with the changeover to diesel, so they gradually obtained names and some rather unusual ones at that. Eventually, EMU's started to be named and on 28 July 1992, I attended my first ever naming ceremony when the late Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother named a class 365 unit 'Kings Lynn Festival' at Kings Lynn station.
On Friday next being 22nd June, there will be another naming taking place at Kings Lynn, when a First Capital Connect class 365 gets the name of 'Captain George Vancouver' after the Navigator who gave his name to Vancouver in Canada after charting the North West coast of America 250 years ago. I daresay there will be all the usual pomp and ceremony to go with it by so-called Officials who like to show-off in front of others. I certainly wont attend another after the one with HM Queen Mother and all the snobs hanging on in there trying their best to impress the Lady as well as others.
