Signalman attacked in his boxWhile I respect I am no longer on the job, I do still have great respect for staff upon the railway and going about their job in safety.
I have read in a paper just this morning, that on Friday night, a gang of about 15 youths attacked a teenager, then turned on a man who intervened. The victim was then helped to the signal box at the local station by a Network Rail employee, close to where the attack took place. These same Yobs forced their way into the box and then reportedly attacked the Signalman, also damaging some equipment in there.
Rather than mention the exact location on here, can anyone knowing the box involved, please pass on my wishes to the Signalman involved for a recovery from any injuries he sustained in their attack. Some of the staff in this same box know me, but not by my user name on here.
Thank you very much.

Three people appeared in court on Tuesday with regards to this incident and were given very pathetic sentences for their crimes, including Endangering Rail Safety by damaging vital signalling equipment. The signalman was rightly praised for taking emergency action and getting another box to take over control of the section of line.
One 19-year-old was given 3 months imprisonment suspended for 12 months. he was also given a community order and ordered to pay £150 in costs.
A 16-year-old was charged with endangering safety on the railway and criminal damage and was given an eight-month detention and training order.
A 17-year-old also admitted endangering safety on the railway and given a 12-month community order with 80 hours unpaid work, plus ordered to pay £150 costs.
