Rail Head Treatment Train (RHTT)

Trains used to water jet contanimation from the rail head. Leaves are mainly to blame. If they fall on the railhead they get squashed and the juices left behind are extremely slippery and can cause problems to trains starting or stopping. It is like driving on ice! The water jets are so high powered that if the RHTT stopped and kept it jets on it would cut through the rail. Sometimes a chemical called Sandite is also applied to further enhance railhead traction.

The trains are either made up of a Network Rail MPV (Multi Purpose Vehicle) or top and tailed cannon trains powered by class 20, 37, 57 or 66's.
