March Locomotive DepotI haven't got the actual date, but according to an item in the September issue of Railway Magazine at just 3/- (Now 15p), the coaling tower at March Locomotive depot was finally demolished after four attempts, using explosive charges of different sizes, in order to bring it down.
Strangely enough, it took four 150-ton remotely controlled hydraulic jacks, that were extended to their full capacity of 7 feet lighting limit to bring the tower finally crashing to the ground. It just goes to prove the point that todays workmanship is of NO comparrison to that of 80 years ago.
