Increased freight flows in the region.

Hutchingson Ports who own Felixstowe are planning on paying for the dualing of the Felixstowe branch. I don't know if it is going to be double track or a dedicated freight line with passenger services travelling on the other parallell line. They also want to expand Ipswich freight yard to enable longer trains to use the yard. Currently rail takes 240,000 lorries off the A14 every year!

There are rumours that a new frieght terminal is planned for south of Stowmarket but this is an unreliable rumour unless anyone can confirm?

There should be more plans for frieight to the new deep port at Great Yarmouth. A good few years for rail is on it's way I think you will agree.

The new deep outer harbour has no direct rial connection and neither is one planned, there are no proper facilities at Yarmouth Station for bulk freight.
I cant see it worth anyones while to double handle frieght from the harbour to the weed infested tramac at Yarmouth vauxhall.
Its sad and tragic decision that the £50million being spent on a harbour did not include a manditory rail connection especially as there is a freightliner berth being constructed.

Likewise at Lowestoft, we have sidings along side the quay where on the other side of the fence lorrys take away huge amounts of aggregates and timber to or from there onward destination.

Wisbech Harbour is currently undergoing a '£42M Regeneration Scheme' and they wont give the Bramley Line* the needed £20,000 to lease the line and help get freight hopefully and eventually back on the rails. They would rather Gridlock the roads with lorries, getting more in fuel duty, than get freight shifted in bulk and by rail.

* Re this project, we got refused the grant applied for, because according to 2 outsiders with NO communication skills to ask us, they insisted we have no plans. We have said since Day 1, when we get the lease, we Will be looking at a Heritage Line first, then offer the use of it to both commuter AND freight companies, but one of these know-it-all, know-nothings, even had to ask "What is a railway line?"  Rolling Eyes
