£30m plan for Norfolk Railways

Norfolk County Council and businesses are asking the government for £30m in the next few years and £0.5billion in the long term to update Norfolks railways. Part of the £30m plan includes:

- Dualling the Trowse Swingbridge to enable increased frequency to Cambridge.

- More trains on the highly successful Bittern Line to Sherringham.

- A level crossing at Sherringham to enable trains onto a thrid platform at the NNR.

- Electrification to Great Yarmouth.

The £0.5billion plan is to update the London Mainline which includes quading the route between Ipswich and Shenfield.

I don't know whether the figure I was told was correct at the time, but some years ago the NNR wanted the level crossing into Sheringham reinstated, but they were quoted £1/2m. This was to include the planning application, installation, road closure, plus everything else needed. That was like many other Preserved Lines and way against their means.

The figure I heard was nearer the million mark but being the railways the actual parts and labour would be about £50K, the rest being consulatnts fees etc.
