Although i'm a month out, i'm pleased to say that the last two remaining 3 car Class 309's reclassed as Class 960 departmental units have departed the MOD at pigs bay for hopefully a new life. Not too sure where they were off too, so if anyone can clarify, that would be great.

It is fantastic these units could be preserved. The first AC units, and the first 100mph units, you would think someone would have stepped in sooner! For me it would be fantastic if they were repainted into their BR Maroon livery with wrap around windows. I do believe there is also a Class 309 coach at Carnforth, but i have no idea why it is based there, or what the plans are for it.
A bigger shot of the two units in 2005 can be found here:

While they still don't look in too bad condition i hear asbestos could be a problem.

I can remember travelling on a couple of these to and from Clacton some years back and when in NSE livery. I also have a photo somewhere of one that I will glady put on here when I find it. Forewarned, it isn't brilliant by any means, but then not too bad. _________________ Please help us to 'Raise a Wagon Load of Cash' and so we can get the lease, then start running. It took some finding, but I got there. Class 309 607 seen stabled at Ipswich some years ago.

Thanks for that, that one looks like one of the ex two car griddle units, i think it is anyway, due to the pantograph being above the cab. _________________ Kieran

Perhaps the best livery for one?

I don't suppose anyone knows what station that is, someone i was talking too seemed to think it might be Shenfield, while it does look like there it also looks like Clacton, but it's a bit hard to tell!

I am with you on this one and Shenfield. I have only been there twice in the last couple of years and almost certain it is. _________________ Please help us to 'Raise a Wagon Load of Cash' and so we can get the lease, then start running. I have a sneaking suspicion it is Clacton and not Shenfield now. I found this shot of Clacton:

The platform on the right seems to match the plaform on the pic from the other site.
