| The Utechtic Strips and the zig-zag welds you see on the railhead at terminus platforms and sidings. They improve the track circuit contact in areas where dirt often forms on the track resulting in the inability of a train to operate a track circuit. |

A good place to see this is at London Euston Silverlink METRO platforms, platforms 8&9.
