I thought I'd share this with you, from the NNR round robin "PoppyLines". It is on the subject of reinstating the line between NNR Sherringham Station and the current Network Rail one:

I believe (please correct me if anyone knows any different) that the crossing would only be used 8 times per year for railtours. Yes, it would be nice for a "hub" station but I believe the purists wouldn't like the modern traction over their side of the road. I hope that both modern trains and heritage can work side by side. I would love to see a time when you can get on at Norwich and go to Cromer, Sherringham, Holt, Dereham, Wymondham and back to Norwich without a single change of train!

Unfortunatly, that wouldn't be possible due to the Holt Bypass which runs along the old line where the old station used to be. Still, something to look forward to for the future maybe. It might require some grand earthworks, but by 'eck, the Great Central seem to be doing something like that!

To be honest, yes it would be nice to have old and new running along side each other, but I'd prefer the NNR Heritage Station to remain in use for NNR activites only. Whilst I have nothing wrong with the old and the new running along side each other (doing this would be quite a momentus occasion), by using the NNR Station it could result in problems further on in the future.

My dad occasionaly talks about the old level crossing - mostly about squishing penny coins on the rails with school mates Shocked

With the Railtours, I also don't understand how the locomotives would run around at Cromer. With no passing loop, they'd either have to do the manouvre outside Cromer, or reinstate the Loop at East Runton. The other alternative would be to run a NNR locomotive on the front up to Cromer, with the Charter Engine facing the Holt end of the line on the end of the train, uncouple the NNR engine at the Cromer Terminus and let the Charter engine off on it's way.

i have heard a quote of £3 mill to get to holt
NOR have said you could run along the bypass but from the google earth its impossible, housing and roads etc. i would of though you could build a cutting and bridge under the bypass and several other roads or build a massive enbankment and bridge it all costing millions that the nnr will probably never have unless i win the £92 million next friday Very Happy

An extension to M.Constable is pretty dire, not much of a chance there to be honest. A good vision for the future but it'd be a hell of a lot of work. The most plausable extension would be for the mid-Norfolk to run up to Fakenham, that'd be most probable.

I have no doubt that that extension will take place (mnr to fakenham) although great ryburgh is a headache, it would be fantatic riding all the way to fakenham and certainly put mnr in the the high league. 3 market towns on one line would be a real winner

I saw on Teletext today, that the Go-ahead for the two lines to be joint at Sheringham has finally been given, and due to be done in February 2009. If this is true, then GOOD LUCK to the NNR. YOU DESERVE IT FOLKS!

Loads of cromwell next year, ive got the easterling im going on then most likley as said ollie may visit sheringham possibly reliving the broadsman.
