The latest reported acquasition to the collection at Mangapps Farm in Essex, is reported to be Class 47 793, that was at one time, NSE Liveried 47 579 'James Nighthall GC' and served many good years on Kings Lynn to Liverpool Street services. I have had the pleasure to work behind it as a Guard on that line back in 1990 and you will see a photograph of the same when I saw it approach Denver Crossing, near Downham Market in the 1980's below.
One night at Liverpool Street, my driver was saying that every time he drove 47 579, it failed on him, so when I saw we had that as our loco for the run to Kings Lynn, I burst out laughing before telling him. In my short time I had been on the railway, I had never worked behind any loco that failed and on this same occasion, nor did this one and in fact, we arrived at Kings Lynn 2 minutes early.
