Born at Laindon, Essex, I have a vast interest in the London Tilbury & Southend Railway, or LT&SR as it was then, but now run by National Express. While running under C2c, it got the reputation and nickname of 'The Misery Line' and after a few years, it soon became a line for Good punctuality.

Pictured below is one of their current units and Class 357's, approaching Laindon while on an 'Up' service to Fenchurch Street on Saturday 5 July.

Is the 357 the equivalent of an Electrified Turbostar? They both look very similar.

Alike in many ways from what I have learnt Owen, but I have rarely travelled on either.

There's a great photo spot on the seafront near Leigh-on-Sea station, on this line. Will post some pics of a ballast train I took in April. I think there may be a railtour in Sept through to Southend Central.

I have a 1000 piece jigsaw of two 2-6-4's passing each other at Leigh-on-Sea, plus a 1500 of a 2-6-4 pulling out of Southend-on-Sea Central heading for Shoeburyness and yet to do either of them. What fond memories I have of that area as well.
