It doesn't seem possible it is almost 12 years since Steam loco's ran on the Eastern Counties Steam Weekend and between Bishops Stortford and Ely with Britannia, Sir Nigel Gresley and Union of South Africa.
As an ex-Guard and having kept my original uniform issued to me when I joined the railway in 1989, I was given duty on some of them in both directions, still got my copies of timetable used and the watch I was given for doing it.
On the Saturday, I was on my way to BIS and had stopped at Ely when Union of South Africa was steamed in and I never spotted the camera pointing at me as I waved to the fireman then looking out. I never went back home that day until after the last steam train of the day had stopped. In the end, I worked 12 hours on both days, just to ride behind steam. the pay I got for the extra hours, I donated to charity, because I GOT my reward by being a Guard behind 3 famous steam locomotives.
I still have the video produced of the weekend and will never part with it.
